Creating a contemporary look in your bathroom is as easy as finding a fabulous contemporary style bathroom vanity. They are available in a range of modern finishes like brushed metals, chrome, woods and natural stones. Contemporary vanities are simplistic and minimalist, their style will last for many years and will mold to any changes you might make in the future.
Putting together fixtures according to a contemporary aesthetic is not a hard job to do if you consider just a few basic concepts. For a contemporary vanity, consider a mirror that is frameless or minimal in style. Look for a cabinet that has clean lines and with flat panel doors. Making material selections for your contemporary bathroom vanity is quite a lot of fun due to the many choices available–brushed metals, chrome, stainless steel, glass, acrylics, and even naked or stained woods.
The usual accessories for contemporary designs include a stainless steel towel rail and a uniquely designed trap, and soft lighting. Lighting will often be very affordable for a project like this because you can go with pairs of sconces, they tend to be less expensive than larger fixtures. There is a large selection of stylish contemporary lighting.
The materials should be one of the first things to consider; consider some basic design needs; do you prefer the appearance of woods or chrome and metal? Are you drawn to earth tones or a brighter palette? Usually, contemporary bathroom vanities incorporate a variety of materials that are clean-lined and minimalist in style. You have a lot of choice when it comes to color with contemporary design, since its simplicity provides more room for color pops. You may also use lighting to enhance the color scheme of your bathroom, accentuate the bathroom vanity and set the ambience you want.
Next move on to storage; contemporary vanities often focus on practicality. Some vanities are designed with prefabricated under sink storage systems allowing you to easily maximize the space. Try looking into vanities with a sink that comes with cabinet and drawers, and mounted cabinets with a mirror and even lighting fixtures.
Once you have a vanity picked out, move on to the vanity mirror. These days mirrors aren’t just a plain piece of silvered glass; mirrors are available in so many styles, shapes, and sizes. Their designs and frame selections also vary widely. Most contemporary wall mounts and mirrors come with lighting as part of their design. Thus, form and function are combined to create a beautiful and elegant appearance. There are five major shapes for your mirror: oval, round square, rectangular, and arch.
With the rise in loft style living, the contemporary door style has become extremely popular today. Contemporary doors are sleek in appearance and are accessorized with a variety of material choices, such as glass, stainless steel, and more. When choosing flat panel doors make sure they have good quality. Since they have a relatively simple design, any chip or dent on the material will not be a pleasing sight.
Contemporary bathroom vanities are not difficult to work with. Simply think about form and function. The two will create a lovely design balance for your room.

Twenty two years ago, before it was even popular like it is today, I used an antique piece of furniture, cut a hole in the top, dropped in a scalloped porcelain sink , and transformed it into a working sink/vanity in my downstairs bathroom. And, the oak furniture piece cost only $165.00. Yes, I had to retrofit the drawers so they could still be used, but the end result is well worth my efforts. The style of the furniture is curved in front with a harp on the back for hanging towels, like an old fashioned wash sink to match my victorian bath. But you can use any other style to fit your decor.
I refinished the vanity with Minwax Antique Oil Rub. The oil absorbs into the wood and is waterproof. You may be tempted to finish the wood with polyurethane and although it is waterproof, it will eventually end up getting scratched and begin to lift which will result in more maintenance that you may want to dedicate to the vanity. Whereas the oil soaks into the wood, not coating the surface like the poly. And the finish is hand rubbed, leaving a wonderful patina look to the wood.
May I suggest that you skip the bathroom showrooms and go directly to the flea markets, consignment shops, antique shops and the like?
You may be surprised what you can find if you have the time to shop, because if you have more time than money, you are sure to find something that will work for your application.
This may not be the answer you were looking for, however, please at least consider the possibilities.
