A Sacred Place

The bathroom is one of the most personal and private places in the house. This is where people spend countless hours on a daily basis. Therefore, the relevance of having a spacious an elegantly designed bathroom should never be undermined.

Not a single person on earth would want to wake up in the morning only to stumble into a dark and messy bathroom. To have the energy and desire to face the grueling day ahead, it will be helpful if one were to walk into a bathroom that is not only beautifully designed, but spacious as well. While some bathrooms may be big enough to accommodate large vanities such as dressing tables or wooden counters, most settle for just enough space for the basics – a shower, a toilet, a sink, and maybe even a couple of fixtures. This is simply the case for most homeowners which is why it is necessary to get creative in order to make the most of the limited space available. One of the most effective small bathroom vanities in terms of freeing up some extra space while providing some much needed aesthetic value are corner vanities. Read on below to understand what this is all about.

A Specific Purpose

Corner bathroom vanities are designed specifically for the purpose of overcoming the drawbacks associated with having undersized bathrooms. Not only are these small bathroom vanities elegant and striking, but they also have the ability to snuggle their way into the corner of the room, providing more floor space for other fittings.

The corner of the bathroom is probably the least useful space in the entire room. This is why it is necessary to find ways to utilize this space. A good way to go about this is by placing corner vanities which as their name implies, are typically shaped like a quarter circle. One of its ends is curved and is the one projecting outwards while the opposing side has a pointed end which fits perfectly into the corner of the bathroom.

A Variety to Choose From

There are a variety of corner bathroom vanities to choose from. They come in all shapes, sizes, as well as functions. There are also all sorts of material used to construct these small bathroom vanities such as metal, wood, fiberglass, or granite. One can also choose between different genres available including modern, traditional, and antique designs. In choosing the right type of corner vanity for one’s bathroom, it is necessary to keep in mind that their style and design must be able to compliment the room’s look, while still serving the purpose of freeing up some much needed floor space.

Bathroom remodeling takes time, careful planning, and precise execution. The objective of a bathroom remodel is to upgrade the appearance of your bathroom with the latest bathroom fixtures, designs, and styles. However, bathroom remodeling can be a bit overwhelming. Even if you don’t install your new fixtures and furnishings yourself, simply selecting that perfect bathroom vanity, sink, and mirror can be more complicate than you think, especially if you’ve never remodeled a bathroom before.

Below are a few tips on what NOT to do when remodeling your bathroom. Use these tips to avoid common mistakes and ensure that the look you intend for your bathroom is actually what turns out.

Bathroom Remodeling Tip #1: Don’t Wing It

Some people think that remodeling a bathroom is a piece of cake and simply involves swapping out an old sink or vanity with a new one; however, because the bathroom involves plumbing, you need to carefully plan out your remodel. You need to make sure the new fixtures you select fit the space and the plumbing of your bathroom, or at least understand that rearranging the layout of your bathroom may involve rerouting some pipes (which is an arduous task). So, before you even think about the new vanity or sink you want to buy, establish the basic layout of your new bathroom. If the layout is staying the same, take note of the plumbing layout and keep that in mind when you’re shopping for a new sink, toilet, or vanity. If you’re rearranging a few items, draw out how you want your bathroom to look, measure everything to make sure your vision is realistic, and then see if you need to reroute any plumbing. In some cases, you won’t know if your new bathroom layout will call for new plumbing to be installed, so call a plumber and get his/her professional opinion. After you’ve mapped everything out and established the basic layout of your new bathroom design, then you can start shopping for your new lavish bathroom furnishings.

Bathroom Remodeling Tip #2: Don’t Buy the First Thing You See

The key to successfully remodeling your bathroom is to shop around. You never want to buy the first thing you find. If you’re not already set on a specific vanity or sink design, go online and check out the latest bathroom furnishings. This way, you’ll get a better idea of the number of different styles available without having to leave your home. Shopping around will also give you the opportunity to comparison shop. Today, modern bathroom furnishings are more available and affordable than ever before. Thanks to wholesalers who purchase bathroom furnishings in bulk, you can get that elegant vessel sink you’ve always wanted at a price that won’t bust your remodeling budget. Before you buy, you better shop around.

Bathroom Remodeling Tip #3: If Don’t Know, Don’t Install It Yourself

Getting a new toilet is a different experience from getting a new bed. With a bed, you pay the extra to get it delivered and put in your home. However, with a toilet, getting it delivered and put in your home is only the beginning. Bathroom remodeling almost always involves plumbing work. Even if you aren’t rerouting pipes or drainage systems, installing new bathroom fixtures (such as a toilet, sink, and faucet) takes a little plumbing know-how. However, not all of us are as “handy” as we would like to be. And when you’re dealing with running water, it’s important to know how to properly uninstall and install bathroom fixtures. So, if you’re a novice at plumbing, call a professional. Many bathroom remodeling shops offer installation with the purchase of their products (for an added fee) or know of plumbers in your area who can install your new bathroom fixtures for you. Either way, if you’ve never installed a toilet, sink, or faucet, or had a bad previous experience with plumbing, it’s worth the money to have your new bathroom furnishings installed right.

When it comes to bathroom remodeling, it’s very important to plan out your new layout, shop around, and install your new bathroom furnishings properly. Failing to do so could cost you more money in the long run and result in a less-than-perfect remodel.

Homeowners need not stress over small bathroom designs. Although the space element may be limited, there are several creative ways to maximize what you have. Here are some top ideas for small bathrooms.

Pick Light Colors

The color of your bath is crucial to creating great first impressions. Small bathrooms should always avoid dark, heavy colors. These can make your bath seem both assuming and smaller than it is. Light, pastel colors on the other hand with small designs are perfect. These colors create the impression of spaciousness. These are also the colors that can make any room fell fresh, airy and relaxing. Mix and match pastel colors for your floor, walls, cabinets and fixtures.

Use Corner and Overhead Spaces

Make use of unused spaces. The key is to make the most out of these small unused areas. You could for example push your bath tub and toilet to the wall to ensure that no remaining unused space at the back remains. You can also use corners for a hanging sink and a corner shower booth. Overhead spaces can still accommodate cabinets, hamper hooks and racks. As much as possible, keep the floor space free except for your tub, shower stall and toilet.

Choose Smaller Bath Items

Pick out small items and bathroom accessories. Bath fixtures don’t come in single sizes. If you do not have a family of giants, then you can settle for a smaller toilet, bathtub and sink. Do make sure though that you have fixtures that you are comfortable using. Consult the biggest member of your family when picking the smallest possible fixture available.

Use Mirrors

All bathrooms need mirrors. Small bathrooms would look perfect with unadorned mirrors. Extremely small bathrooms might have to do with small round mirrors. Small baths though that aren’t exactly too cramped could use wide mirrors that stretch across walls. It may not be obvious to some but mirrors are design accents that are more than just functional. These reflective surfaces will help make your bathroom seem larger.

Get Lights and Windows

Aside from mirrors, lights also help extend the perception of space. As much as possible, natural light sources should be preferred over artificial ones. Windows over bathtubs or overhead openings bring in not just light but a breath of fresh air.

Use night lights wisely. Opt for generous light fixtures that aren’t just limited to the center of the room. Attach dimmers so you can adjust light options when you are in the mood for subdued lights.

Think Minimal

Limit your bathroom items and accessories. As much as possible, stick to only the essential items that a bathroom should have. Move magazine racks, extra cabinets, excess hampers and towel racks from the bathroom.

Small bathroom designs may require your creativity. With a little imagination, you can easily convert a small bathroom into the dream haven you have always wanted.

When designing a bathroom it can be difficult if you do not know where to begin. It can be a challenge when you keep looking at the sink, tub, and toilet, knowing that you can move them very easily. The biggest change that can happen in your bathroom design is your bathroom vanity. It will make the contrast that you want without taking out the permanent fixtures.

When anyone walks into a bathroom, the vanity is noticed first because it is by the doorway. They also look at your bathroom vanity closely because most people use the sink and inspect their appearance before heading out the door. The reason that your guests check out your vanity when they are in the bathroom is because they are not being bothered with conversation so they can concentrate on detail.

Now that you understand that your bathroom vanity is going to be one of memories of your visit, you need to install a spectacular piece that coordinates with your theme of the room. This may be a tough task but if you match the mirror to the theme it should go smoothly.

You could go with a natural feel in your bathroom by choosing a wood bathroom vanity. To continue the theme throughout the whole bathroom by adding accessories that are also made out of wood such as towel racks or the framing of your vanity mirror. To make your mirror look delicate you can have the glass etched with a silver or gold which will coordinate with your bathroom fixtures. It will also help with bringing your color scheme together if used correctly.

If you get tired of wood you can paint it any color you desire, you could also add some gold or silver accents to the bathroom vanity such as new pulls or drawer handles. Gold works well with warmer tones which makes your bathroom feel inviting to your guests. It is easy to insert some hues of red or tan which can be displayed through towels and washcloths. The chance of finding a vanity with gold accents is more common that you think.

If you’re searching for a method to antique your bathroom with elegant plumbing, you may pick up a custom bathroom vanity that is equipped with cast iron plumbing. When you are looking for a different setting in a bathroom, you can add an elegant touch with few personalized bathroom fixture such as a claw foot bath tub.

When working on a custom bathroom design, you can start by looking online to find the piece of furniture that is going to set the mood for the entire bathroom. It is common to see an underwater theme in a bathroom but to have a custom mirror shaped like a fish is a personal touch the owner was after. By adding a personal item like that mirror can make your guests remember it for years to come. With all the products out on the market, the thing you need to worry about it what style of bathroom vanity mirror to choose.

Going into a small bathroom remodeling project usually means a lot of work and a lot of money. And, if you’re like most folks, you want your bathroom remodeling ideas and efforts to produce some sort of “wow” response. A complete small bathroom makeover may be out of the question right now, but the room needs something! Maybe if you replaced that vanity, or turned the linen closet into a shower or added a few feet by knocking out the exterior wall.

Instead of replace and add, maybe the idea should be relax and lighten up. Simple is actually harder to do than complex. In other words, remodeling a small bathroom, especially a guest bath, for the illusion of more space could be much less of a project than what you may now have in mind… and, “less” could be about both money and work!

There are three things that pretty much have to stay where they are, unless you’re planning to spend lots of money. The sink/vanity, tub/shower and toilet, in that order of importance. That means when someone walks into the bathroom, they usually look at the sink/vanity first, then the tub and/or shower (especially if there’s some nice design element(s) or tile work) and finally the toilet, which is probably the reason for them walking in there in the first place!

So, let’s start with the toilet. Does it need replacing? Remember; its dead last in the popularity contest and most people can’t tell the difference between a 0 and a 0 toilet. The criteria for replacing it should be function, then. Is it an old twentieth century thing with a 3-plus gallon flush? If it is, and not working properly or leaks, you may want to replace it. But the good news is toilets are relatively easy to take out and put in. Search “replace toilet.” If its a newer, white, standard unit, though, hold off on replacing it until after you’ve explored other areas to remodel.

The tub is the most difficult to replace of the three and, like the toilet, if its white, works okay and is in good overall condition hold off on any thoughts of replacing it, as well. The three walls around the tub, however, is a different matter. You can buy pre-made polystyrene “tub surrounds” at the big boxes, plumbing supply stores and at some hardware retailers for around a hundred dollars and up. Tile—a beautiful way to surround your bathtub—comes in a wide, wide assortment of styles, colors and sizes, and tile work is fun. White to match the tub or light colors will bring the bathtub into the twentieth century and visually expand the room.

If you’re thinking about redoing the floor, consider using the same tile for both it and the tub surround. Maybe use matching smaller tiles for the floor molding or, if you’re using 12″ tiles, cut some in half and have a 6″ tile molding. The simplicity here will add visual space. Add an even lighter colored rug and the space will seem bigger and softer. Shower door or curtain? Either way, make sure the colors are light, translucent or… even clear, if you’ve done a great tile job. A simple larger-than-you-probably-first-thought-of mirror will add light and reflect all the great work you’ve done, as well!

The sink/vanity is the easiest and, by far the most used and noticed item in there. Here is where your remodeling budget should be open to ideas. To add floor space, get a pedestal sink. For even more space, a wall mounted sink. If you need the storage, a small white or soft, light colored vanity. If your vanity is okay, perhaps paint and a really wild vessel sink or some other unusual sink/countertop combination. This is where friends and guests will spend time, so maybe you should spend some money there. Wander around a few plumbing fixture retailers and big box home improvement stores.

Paint is always the first thing you should consider, though. Keep the “60-30-10 Rule” in mind when you buy paint, fabrics or accessories. This means 60% dominant color (white or light in this instance), 30% secondary color (earth colors, pastels, etc.) and 10% accent color (something wild). This includes shower curtains, rugs and towels. Check the big boxes for discounted gallons that people returned. Sometimes, one person’s “too much” is another person’s “just right!” One wall—behind the mirror, for instance—will do.

Now is the time, if you’re just starting to plan, to take a fact-finding trip or two to the home improvement stores, plumbing retailers and the paint stores. Also, search online for “vessel sinks”, “cool vanities” or “bathroom mirror” for ideas. New products are being introduced all the time and many items are not only new and cool, but Earth-friendly, too! For more ideas and tips on remodeling inexpensively, go to RemodelQuickTips.com and click on SMALL BATHS, GREEN BATH TIPS, BATH TILE IDEAS or BATHROOM BASICS in the navigator column.

Bathroom remodeling ranks number one among America’s most commonly performed home improvements. This is because today, many individuals consider their bathroom to be some kind of personal retreat, a separated space from the noise outside, where they could relax with complete privacy.

The bathroom is no longer just a space for one’s personal hygiene. Today’s design possibilities for bathrooms are limitless.

The standard rules do not apply anymore. Function, openness, performance as well as easy to clean and maintain materials usually top bathroom requirements. When designing your bathroom, take into consideration layout of bath pieces, cabinet placement and your choice of finishes.

Bathroom remodeling cost depends on how much or how little you opt to put in it. A simple improvement that includes a new bath vanity top, accessories and light fixture will cost under 1000 dollars, while a major bath remodeling, taking everything out then begin from scratch can cost 10,000 dollars or more.

With all available new materials, innovative products and design styles of today, your dream bathroom can actually turn into much more than a toilet, shower and sink combo.

Bathroom design Ideas

1.Set a realistic remodeling or makeover budget. When establishing a budget, take into account your bathroom design ideas that you want and if you can afford them.
Also, take note that it is less expensive when you do not anymore relocate the plumbing fixtures like the sinks or toilets; if you have a small budget, consider incorporating the present layout of your bathroom into your new design.

2.Think of function first. Always take into account functionally in mind as your bathroom is your workstation for getting ready for your day ahead as well as your place for recovering and resting after a hectic day. So keep these in mind when selecting your shower, tub, toilet, sink and other bath pieces.

Furthermore, think about what other needs you have that you can include into your bath, with some clever and careful planning; maybe you want to put a seat into your shower or a linen storage space or a “steam room”. Think what you really want, but give prime importance to your needs first, then second, your wants.

3. Collect bathroom models and design ideas. These will be a big help on your project as you can visualize your finished project as well as your remodeling professionals can have an idea on what your requirements are.

Here are some ideas:

– If your bathroom is large enough, you can either a wicker chair or display case.
– Mix and match colors for your bathroom. This is fun alternative to a white or gray bathroom. Have fun cool and relaxing colors such as you can turn your bathroom into a beach-like retreat investing in cool shades of blue towels, rugged or distressed antique shelf, a series of colorful picture frames, etc.
– Introduce fresh flowers, potted plants or cut tree branches and arrange them in vase. These can liven up your bathroom.
– Bring the outside into your bathroom. Put some sea shells, candles, instead of tiles, you can choose to have lime stones in one wall as your focal point with an iron vanity, large plants and wind metal chimes.
– Get inspiration from your friend’s house, from an expensive restaurant, a spa or a hotel room.

4.Look into popular design trends in bathrooms.

– Second sinks now are getting to be very popular and trendy in bathroom remodeling because they permit two individuals to use their bathroom together.
– Separating your toilet from all other bathroom needs is another trend nowadays.
– If you include a shower only in your bathroom, think of replacing it with a “bathtub” that can serve as both a shower also. Whirlpool tubs are becoming popular in bathroom designs today.
– A spa-like bathroom is the most popular trend today. So aside from whirlpool baths, natural stone walls and wood flooring, try to open up your bathroom with large windows so you can see nature’s beauty outside as you relax.

Designing your bathroom space must not be just another remodeling project. The focus today has to do with your overall pampering needs and self rejuvenation in your bathroom.

If you are redoing your bathroom, you are most likely thinking about replacing many of the items you currently own. This can mean that you will want new bathroom vanities, sinks, faucets and even wall treatments and floor coverings. Knowing how to choose attractive and stylish bathroom vanities and other bathroom components is the key to getting the bathroom you want.

One of the first things that you need to remember is that you want to keep the theme consistent throughout your bathroom. You want to make sure that if you are looking at bathroom vanities that are very modern in style that you also pick sinks, faucets and taps which are also modern in style as well. Whenever possible, you should also try and co-ordinate the sinks, faucets and bathtubs as well as bathroom vanities. This gives a really great feel throughout the entire bathroom.

One of the best new options in bathroom vanities is being able to pick your vanity and have the sink included. This is fantastic because it ensures that the bathroom vanities and sinks are perfectly matched. You don’t need to worry about picking separate sinks and risk finding ones where the color or style does not match. Once you have selected your bathroom vanities and sinks, faucets are the only element that you need to select.

It is a good idea to pick sinks, faucets at the same time. This is because you need to make sure that you pick the right kind of faucets to go with the sink. This is because there are different hole set ups for different faucets and you want to make sure that the sinks, faucets go together without any need for cutting, drilling or alterations.

Do not forget how important the bathtub or shower and toilet is as well when you are decorating. At the very least you want to make sure that the color of these items works well with the colors used in your vanity. You may also want to make sure that the taps and faucets match between your sink and your shower or bathtub. Often, faucet and tap manufacturers will make a line of products which include similarly styled taps and faucets for both the bathtub or shower and the sink. This can be a small detail but it really adds an overall look of co-ordination and planning to your bathroom.

Planning a bathroom remodel can be stressful. You want to make sure that you end up with a well planned room that meets your needs and makes the best use of the space you have to work with. Even though many bathrooms are smaller, there is no reason why you cannot get the same serene and spa-like feel that larger show model rooms have. The right choice of sinks, bathrooms, showers and fixtures can go a long way to getting you the end product that you want and need.

Take the time to look online to see what is available. Picking a good website to purchase your items can offer both excellent selection and great prices on items as well.
